The Fourth of July

  • Jul. 4th, 2008 at 3:48 PM
For Americans, the Fourth of July is a day of special significance, as it has been throughout the relatively short history of the United States. Throughout the 19th and early 20th centuries, during a very strong period of American patriotism and nationalism, American Independence Day was celebrated with great pomp and circumstance, even in areas that could not afford lavish displays. For Americans (in common with other nations that celebrated their own independence festivals), Independence Day was not about partying, drinks, food, or fireworks; it was a celebration of shared identity and history among countless people who would likely never meet, but who nevertheless regarded themselves as being part of a common community. Of course, along with this came politics, and with politics came speeches, arguments, and all manner of competing ideas, but these things marked the Fourth of July as a day of ideological significance to Americans; one which has in recent decades gradually shifted over to a good natured excuse to party.

What follows are a few images of the Fourth of July during America's age of steam. I hope when the time comes for other national holidays, our friends from other nations will do the same.

Yours, etc.,
G. D. Falksen

I've decided I'm not gonna give her negative feedback, I believe it really was just an honest mistake.

Thank you everyone for all your help and advice.

nipple tattoos?

  • Jul. 4th, 2008 at 12:49 PM
Hello, just wondering if anyone here can experienced/read about tattooing the nipple, to look kind of like a pastey?

It's been googled to death with no luck, and bmezine'd a wee bit, only to see ONE girl has gotten pink hearts tattooed over the entire nipple.

If anyone could help me out, I'd be very thankful.

cheers!

I still have some SS rounded NF plugs in 1/2", 7/16", 0g, and 2g.  The 0g-1/2" are nicely weighted if you are planning on stretching up.  On these, I will just take offers.

I also have a pair of 6g amythyst  DF plugs for $6 shipped.

Paypal or BAF certs only. Shipping only to the US.  If you would like pictures, just let me know!

Also, if you buy more than one pair, I'll give you a discount.

Women. In. Pants!

  • Jul. 4th, 2008 at 7:54 AM
A great website full of dress reform pictures, mostly civil war on, but with some earlier. I know a lot of women here would like to keep with a rather period feel but keep it more utilitarian. Plus, i like pants!

the woman that hosts this page has done a tone of research (from what I can tell), and recreated an outfit quite nicely. Quite a few of the pictures draw from the book "Women in Pants". I also like the history of influences on 'women in pants in the western world' to show where it came front and give clues to construction.

I recently became involved in some physical activity that I'd prefer not to wear glass [or metal] in my ears while participating in it. I've never been a big fan of silicone though but I sorta think it'd be best for this.

So if anyone has any original kaos eyelets, or earskins with probably about a 1/4" wearable in 0g... I'd love you forever. Blemished is okay. Colors of choice would be emerald or black, but I'll definitely look at any!!

[Also, if anyone has any circular barbells or septum retainers in 16g/14g in any colors besides polish and dark blue.... show me ;) ]

Positive Feedback for [info]gatorella

So fast a transaction! Over the ocean, and concealed cash, and I already have my plugs, and they're lovely.
The pinchers are just the right kind of gaudy for me haha.
The colorfronts are beautiful, even nicer than the photo, and I'm wearing them right now!
The amythest is so pretty - nearly clear and almost looks like fried glass, now I just need to battle the flares, my ears seem unwilling.

And thank you for the candy!

Corsets

  • Jul. 4th, 2008 at 2:00 AM
... and more.
I found some links to a couple of helpful sites I'd researched a while ago.

Great corsets and waist cinchers. They are a bit more Reanaissance faire style than Victorian. They're great though and well made. I personally bought two waist cinchers from this makers booth at a faire this year.

Same designer as the above link, but if you scroll down she has a bustle skirt. I think she may branch out into Victorian corsetry.

Fabric!

Vintage clothes for research.

I hope this was helpful.
